The Divine Birth, by Deborah Koff-Chapin
So what?

So a quarter of the population of the United States and Europe are "cultural creatives"?

What's that mean? Why is it important?

It means that if you hunger for a deep change in your life that moves you in the direction of less stress, more health, lower consumption, more spirituality, more respect for the earth and the diversity within and among the species that inhabit her, YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

You are one of a growing number of people who want to see deep, integral change in the cultures that have evolved in industrialized nations.

One of the main reasons we have written this book is that we want to make cultural creatives visible to each other. We want cultural creatives to realize that we are the isolated many, not the isolated few. We want to invite cultural creatives to find new ways to work and learn together.

Like everyone else, we're radically uncertain about what happens as more and more of us answer this call to be in service to the world, in service to this emergence of a new, integral culture.

Systems theory helps us understand that none of us can fully see the culture that is emerging. It's a process. It's a birth. And we have to work together to get from here to there.

We know that this kind of change happens when people talk and think and learn and act together to serve our world. We want to use this Cultural Creatives Web Site to help people engage in these four arenas of activity.

Talking

We will introduce you to resources, processes and tools to help you talk and inquire with others about this process of being in service to the world. We are developing the capacity to let cultural creatives in different parts of the country introduce themselves to each other. If you want to be part of our listing of cultural creatives, please fill out this identification form.

And then come back to this website from time to time to see how the list is evolving and how it can be used.

Thinking

On the Connections section of this website we're sharing some of the resources which help us think about this transformation. In the coming months we will enlarge this to include other events, book, websites, articles and other thinking resources. What's been helpful to you that you would like to share with others. Please fill out this resource form and let us know what you find useful.
Learning How do you learn? Do you go to school? To conferences and workshops? Converse with friends? Read? What helps you learn about how to live your life as a Cultural Creative? What has been most valuable? Share this with us and we'll synthesize the results and bring them back to this website. Learning Form

Acting

Finally, how are you acting in the world? In her wonderful book in 1998, Coming Back to Life, our friend Joanna Macy talks about three kinds of work that are equally critical in the world today:

"Holding Actions" in defense of life on Earth -- actions to keep things from getting worse.

Analysis of structural causes and creation of alternative institutions -- actions which make the life more livable, within the current socioeconomic order

Shift in perceptions of reality, both cognitively and spiritually, which make it possible for us to act to shift and transform the whole of the culture.

We'll be using this website to bring forth examples of action in each of these three, critical categories. Come back and visit!

The book is now published, and this website is just beginning. Please come back from time to time to see how we are helping to make The Big Picture more visible!
